Greenpeace
Research, consultancy
Commissioned by Greenpeace, TransCity conducted research among Turkish, Moroccan, Surinamese and Chinese Dutch people. For some time now, environmental and other organisations have been under the impression that environmental issues are less top-of-mind for bicultural Dutch than for native Dutch. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Research by the official Netherlands Statistics Agency CBS (2018) showed that almost 92 percent of respondents with a so-called 'non-Western' migration background (in future CBS will stop using the term 'non-Western') consider the environment important to very important, compared to 89.3 percent of people with a native Dutch background. So there is no reason for environmental organizations not to prominently address environmental issues to bicultural Dutch.
However, we do see that bicultural Dutch people proportionally less often to large fundraising organizations as there is relatively less confidence in many of these organizations than there is among native Dutch. Many bicultural Dutch prefer to donate outside of large organizations, and prefer to see the results of their donations immediately and personally.
